Satopanth Expedtion – 7,075m/23,206ft

The term ‘Satopanth’ is derived from two words – ‘Sato’ meaning heaven, and ‘Panth’ meaning path or way. Satopanth is one of the most popular peak of Uttarakhand. This is the second higesht peak in Gangotri group surrounded by the views of Thalay Sagar , Shivling , BhagirathiIII .  The climbing route includes a complex glacier approach, high angled snow slopes and knife edge ridge, before the final section to the summit. 

Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival at Delhi

This day we will assemble at IMF . Member will meet their team leader and team mates. After briefing session, we will get ready for the overnight journey to Rishikesh.

Day 2 : Rishikesh – Uttarkashi

After freshening up and breakfast, we will drive towards Uttarkashi. Overnight at hotel.

Day 3 : Restday in Uttarkashi

This day we will testing all the equipments of climbers. Rest of the day for leisure

Day 4 :Uttarkashi - Gangotri (3,048m)

After morning breakfast, we will drive 95 kms to reach Gangotri in 4-5 hours . Upon arrival check-in at one of the GuestHouse . Afternoon free for relaxation and exploring surrounding . In the evening visit Gangotri Temple. Overnight at GuestHouse.

Day 5 :Gangotri – Bhojbasa (3,800m)

After breakfast we will start our first day trek towards Bhojbasa following the river Bhagirathi. Trek is full of scenic and beautiful views. We will be covering 14 km in 4-5 hours. Overnight in camp.

Day 6 :Bhojbasa- Gaumukh - Nandanvan

After Morning breakfast we will start our trek toward Gaumukh (The source of river Ganges) then will continue trekking to reach Nandanvan. Overnight in Tents, Total distance – 10 km (4-5 hours)

Day 7: Nandanvan – Vasukital (Base Camp) (4,200m)

This day it will take 3-4 hours to reach Vasukital which will be our Base Camp for the expedition. The 11 km trail goes along Chaturangi Glacier. Overnight in tents.

Day 8: Acclimatization at Base Camp (4,200m)

This day is for acclimatization and preparation for next day climb .

Day 9 : Route Opening and fixing till Camp 1 (5,400m)

This day our Sherpa will open and fix the route till Camp 1. We will also join the Sherpa and will do some load ferry. Members will have to negotiate glacier to reach Camp 1 from where one can have a clear view of Satopanth.

Day 10 : Load ferry to Camp 1(5,400m)

This day we will do one more load ferry to Camp 1. Total time- 4-5 hours.

Day 11 : Base Camp (4,200m) – Camp 1 (5,400m)

This day we will move up and establish Camp 1.

Day 12 : Camp 1 (5,400m) – Camp 2 (6,000m)

This day our Sherpa will open the route and will establish Camp 2. The route from Camp 1 to Camp 2 consist of steep snow and mixed climbing which is fixed by our sherpas. Rest of the part is easy angled snow slope and glacier till camp 2.

Day 13: Camp 1 (5,400m) – Camp 2 (6,000m)

Acclimatization and load ferry to Camp 2.

Day 14 : Camp 1 (5,400m) – Camp 2 (6,000m)

This day team members will move up and establish camp 2.

Day 15 : Camp 2 (6,000m) – Camp3 (6,400m)p

Opening of route from Camp 2 to Camp 3. The route to camp starts with a snow slope then to a broad ridge which becomes narrow for about 700 m. The slopes is of 40 -55 degree . At the end of this ridge Camp 3 will be established. This will be our last camp before summit attempt.

Day 17 : Load ferry and preparation for summit attempt.

We will establish camp 3 and prepare for the summit attempt next day.

Day 18 :Summit Attempt (7,075m)

We will start 1:Am in the night for summit attempt. We will rope up and push for the summit attempt. This day route will not be fixed unless condition requires . Once you reach summit you can see Nanda Devi and other famous peaks. Kashmir and Tibet is visible from summit.

Day 19 :Extra day reserved for summit Attempt

Day 20 : Extra day reserved for summit Attempt

Day 21- 22 : Wind up higher Camps and move to Base Camp

This day we will wind up all the higher camp and move to Base Camp.

Day 23 : Base Camp - Gaumukh

Move back to Gaumukh . Overnight in camps

Day 24 : Gaumukh- Gangotri

Move back to Gangotri . Overnight in Guesthouse.

Day 24 : Gangotri- Uttarkashi

Drive towards Uttarkashi . Overnight in Hotel.

Day 25 : Uttarkashi – Rishikesh – New Delhi

Morning after breakfast we will drive towards Rishikesh . After reaching Rishikesh we will have some rest time then board the overnight Volvo bus to New Delhi.

Day 26 : Arrival in New Delhi

Early morning arrival in New Delhi. After breakfast have a debriefing session.

IMPORTANT NOTE: 

Every effort will be made to keep to the above itinerary, but as this is adventure travel in a remote mountain region, we cannot guarantee it. Weather conditions, road conditions, vehicle breakdowns and the health of climbers can all contribute to changes. The Expedition Leader will try to ensure that the trip runs according to plan.

Our expeditions are led by very experienced mountain leaders who have earlier climbed Satopanth and have vast climbing experience in Zanskar and Himalayas. Our Leader will be supported by sherpas and high altitude porters.

Experience Required

This expedition is suitable for mountaineers, with snow and ice climbing experience to Scottish Grade III and Alpine AD. We also require that you have previous experience of climbing and working in glaciated mountains. Mountaineers who have completed expeditions such as Mera and Island Peak, Elbrus, Aconcagua, Mt Denali, could consider Nun as a more technical and challenging trip.

Leadership:

The expedition is led by our incountry team for group smaller than 6 people unless otherwise arranged. Groups of 6 people or more are led by a European qualified leader.

A remote medic/leader can be added to the trip for for £2,000
